Biography 

Maedb Joy is a poet, writer, performer and theatre maker, making work about class, sex work, queerness and womanhood. She is an alumna of Guildhall School of Music and Drama (rated 1st in the UK for arts + drama), and the Royal Court Playwriting Group. She was nominated by Guildhall in 2020 for the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund in the Devising category. In 2024 Maedb was awarded ‘Writer of the Year’ by the Sexual Freedom Awards, as well as performing her original poetry at the Women’s March to over 100,000 people, alongside performing at the V&A, Mighty Hoopla Festival, and the Houses of Parliament. 

 

Her professional credits also include: BBC, Tate St Ives, Tour De Moon, Fat Out Fest, Ourgasm, Bishopsgate Institute, Rich Mix, Camden Peoples Theatre, VAULT Festival, Sounds of the Other City, Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Vagina Museum, and Polyester Zine. 

 

Maedb is the founder and and artistic director of Sexquisite Events, a performing arts company platforming sex worker artists across theatre, cabaret and nightlife across the UK.  She is also the co-founder of Riot Party, a sex positive queer community producing sold out events in London, Manchester and Bristol. Both organisations are committed to creating paid creative opportunities for sex workers, and impacting meaningful change through art and entertainment. 

 

Alongside this Maedb guest lectures for Central School of Speech and Drama, lecturing on “Sex Work and Feminist Performance”, as well as running multiple socially engaged art workshops with different communities.
